China Unicom Taking on In-Flight Wi-Fi Market

China Unicom launched a joint venture UnicomAirNet, with other Chinese partners on April 25, aiming at China's in-flight Wi-Fi market.

Zhou Hong, deputy general manager of UnicomAirNet, said that considering less than 100 aircrafts covered by Wi-Fi existing in China, UnicomAirNet expects a stable development. First, the company plans to integrate tripartite resources; it will construct a satellite communication network covering China and abroad, as a second step; the equipment and network management will be gradually improved; it will choose channels following market demands.
