China Telecom Competes in 2nd SIM Card Slot of Mobile Phone

Updated:2017/4/11 16:18

China Telecom announced recently that it will conduct mobile phone's second SIM card slot competition survey services based on user consumption scenarios. The bid should not be over CNY500,000.

It is estimated that all-network mobile phones will hit 315 million in China in 2017, according to the announcement, which caused slot competition among the Chinese mobile carriers.

The second SIM card slot battle is a rare opportunity for China Telecom and China Unicom who intend to trigger a war among the three state-owned telecom operators in the 4G era.

China Telecom has been ambitious for the second SIM card slot since 2016. It has received 800MHz band refarming approval from MIIT in July 2016, and 900MHz band refarming approval in December of the same year. In addition, the company said it will set up a special fund of 1.8 billion renminbi in 2017 as subsidy for the vendors, which can encourage and support the 800MHz band and R&D and production of all-network 4G handsets.

The survey will also provide an important basis for China Telecom to develop a more accurate strategy about second SIM card slot of mobile phones.
