China 4G Users Hit 814 Million, Telecom Revenue CNY207.47 bn

MIIT released China's Telecom Industry Economic Performance in January, February 2017 on March 30. All told, telecom services volume in China have grown steadily by 41.8 percent year-over-year to CNY311.6 billion during the first two months this year and telecom service revenue has been up 5.9 percent to CNY207.47 billion.

In addition, three Chinese state-owned operators have achieved mobile service revenue of CNY149.2 billion in the first two months with a net growth of 4.6%, accounting for 71.9 percent of the total telecommunication service revenue. Fixed communication service revenue increased 9.6 percent to CNY58.3 billion year over year, representing 28.1 percent, up slightly, of China's telecommunication service revenue.

4G users have accounted for over 60 percent of the total telecom users, and mobile broadband users reached 978 million, accounting for 73.3 percent of the mobile phone users in China. Mobile phone users have hit 1.33 billion by the end of February with a 11.71 million net increase in the first two months of 2017. 2G and 3G users migrated to 4G steadily, and 4G user base grew explosively to 814 million, accounting for 61.1 percent of the mobile phone users.

The duration of calls on mobile phone reduced 4.8% to 421.4 billion minutes.

SMS volume reached 102.8 billion, down 3.4 percent, bringing China revenue of CNY5.67 billion while MMS volume declined 7.5 percent year over year to 8.07 billion.
