China Mobile Annual Profit to Fall CNY7 bn, Capex Down 6%

China Mobile released the 2016 financial report on March 23.

The company has achieved revenue of CNY708.4 billion with a 6 percent growth and net profit of CNY108.7 billion with a slight increase of 0.2 percent during the year.

Shang Bing, chairman of China Mobile, said at the results briefing that the Chinese government had proposed new initiatives of network speed raise and tariff cut, demanding the three major carriers cancel national long-distance and roaming charges, significantly reduce the charges for Internet dedicated access for SMEs and reduce the international long-distance charges, which will shrank China Mobile's revenue and profit in 2017 by CNY7 billion.

Furthermore, China Mobile will cut its capex by 6 percent year-over-year to CNY176 billion in 2017.

In addition, the company plans to build 260,000 4G base stations which will reach 1.77 million totally, and to add 100 million 4G subscribers with a steady, increasing ARPU which showed an obvious decline in China Mobile's 2016 results, Mr. Shang said.
