MIIT: China's Telecom Service Revenue Increases 5.6% in 2016

MIIT issued China's telecom industry operating report in 2016 recently.

Revenue

Statistics show that telecom service revenue has increased 5.6% to CNY1.1893 trillion from the year before.

Telecom service revenue is CNY3.5948 trillion, up 54.2% year over year.

Non-voice service revenue in 2016 accounted for 75% of the total, rising from 69.5% of 2015 while mobile data and Internet service revenue represents 36.4%. The percentage of mobile broadband (3G/4G) subscribers was largely raised and fiber access became the mainstream fixed broadband access. Mobile broadband user penetration rate reached 71.2%, 15.6% higher than last year.

User scale

China's telephone subscribers increased 1.7% year-on-year to 1.53 billion in 2016 with 50.54 million mobile phone user additions.

With 340 million new additions, 4G user base has been raised to 770 million.

The three major carriers have gained over 37.74 million fixed Internet access users which hit 297 million totally.

Service

The duration of calls on mobile phone has reached 2.81 trillion minutes, falling 1.4% compared with the same period of 2015.

Bringing revenue of CNY36.5 billion, SMS volume reduced 4.6% to 667.1 billion year over year while MMS volume declined 9.8% to 55.7 billion.

Investments in fixed asset

Investments in fixed assets reached CNY435 billion, including CNY235.5 billion in mobile communication.
