OPEN-O to Construct Open Source Software for SDN/NFV for China's Operators

SDN/NFV is the direction of evolution of next generation network and the telecom industry should get prepared for it while common IT technologies will be introduced to the telecommunication network.

To embrace the evolution, OPEN-O was established at Linux Foundation in June 2016, supported by several firms including Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Huawei, Red Hat, Canonical, Cloudbase, Gigaspace, China Telecom and China Mobile.

Yang Zhiqiang, vice director of China Mobile Research Institute said that OPEN-O would promote the transformation from OSS (Operations Support System) to OSS (Open Source Software) for the operators so as to achieve transformation of telecom cloud, reduce the time the services spent on going on-line and the integrated cost of development, integration and operation while promoting regional economic prosperity among several industries through cooperation and innovation with open source communities.
