China has completed first phase of 5G test specification definition

Updated:2016/4/19 14:02

5G technology and test seminar was held in Beijing on April 15th.

Wen Ku, Director of Department of Communications Development of MIIT said at the seminar that the step of 5G development speeds up this year. In February 2016 ITU started 5G technology assessment while 3GPP began research of 5G standards early this year and the first version of standards will be completed in 2018.

MIIT, NDRC and Ministry of Science and Technology of China jointly established the IMT-2020 5G Promotion Group in 2013, aiming to promote the research of 5G demands, technologies, spectrums, standards, etc.

Wen Ku said China started 5G technology R&D test officially in January 2016, which is the first time China synchronizes with the international standard organizations to start the test and verification of new generation of mobile communication technology. He also pointed out, "China will conduct 5G R&D test in 2016-2018 and the emphasis this year is verification tests of single point of key technologies and part of technical solutions."

Promoted by the IMT-2020 5G Promotion Group, China has finished the first phase of radio test specification definition by far.

Wen Ku gave several suggestions about 5G development: first, expand R&D efforts; second, strengthen international cooperation, analyze 5G technology needs, promote the formation of unified global 5G standards; third, accelerate the research of integrating innovation between IoT, car networking, industrial internet and 5G, conduct the R&D work and application demonstration verification of the key technology products and explore the new technologies and formats.
