Updated:2015/9/16 11:10

Chen Jiachun, the deputy director of Information and Communication Development Department of MIIT, recently revealed that “most of China's broadband development goals of 2015 have been achieved”.

According to the official plan that issued in May of this year, China will develop 200 million new 4G subscribers and 40 million new optical fiber broadband subscribers in 2015, and make the ratio of 8Mbps and above 8Mbps access rates broadband users account for 55% of the total number. In fixed network, the goal is to expand the optical fiber coverage to 80 million new subscribers; in the mobile network, the goal is to build over 600,000 new base stations.

Chen Jiachun said, China's broadband subscribers have reached 208 million at present, and the optical fiber coverage reached 94 million residences, with an increase of over 75% than last year. By the end of July, the above 8Mbps access rate broadband subscribers have reached nearly 56% and become the dominant subscriber groups.

Judging by the communication capabilities of the entire networks in China, by the end of 1H2015, the total length of optical cables has reached 9.7 million kilometers, including 5 terrestrial cables leading to ASEAN countries and 3 international marine cables.

The government plans to expand 4G network coverage to urban and rural areas by 2017, with most of the cities achieving comprehensive optical network coverage and the mobile broadband penetration rate reaching the level of medium developed countries.

He pointed out that broadband network was the “infrastructure” of information communication, and improving its construction speed means a lot to promoting the development of E-commerce. China should continue to make full use of the enterprises in broadband network construction and vigorously build “broadband China".

At present, the E-commerce and Internet industry have become new bright spots of China’s economy. The Director of China National Internet Information Office Lu Wei said, at present, the growing speed of China's Internet industry is 5 times of the increasing rate of GDP. According to the data from National Bureau of Statistics, China's total E-commerce transactions exceeded CNY 16 trillion in 2014, with an increase of nearly 60%.
