MIIT required the mobile phone identification rate to reach 90% by the end of this year

On August 31th, a spokesman of the Network Security Management Administration of MIIT said on the related problems of mobile phone identification policy and special action on “unidentified SIM cards”, since the special action started from the beginning of 2015, the un-registrations and faked registrations have significantly reduced and the identification rate has steadily increased. The telecom operators were required to ensure that the identification rate should reach 90% by the end of this year.

"Registration work has been completed for about 10 million unidentified subscribers in the nationwide, the telecom operators have shut down more than 20,000 unidentified SIM cards that are involved with crimes", the responsible person said, the special action has made primary achievements and the source of "unidentified SIM cards" has been effectively curbed.

According to the plan of the special action, from September 1st, the telecom operators will comprehensively provide identification equipment of the second generation ID cards for the entity marketing channels. According to the incomplete statistics, the telecom operators have purchased about 600,000 second generation ID cards identification equipment. Since September 1st, the entity marketing channels will identify the ID cards and read the information automatically with the equipment when handling the applications for network accession services.

The mentioned person said, the carry out of the mobile phone identification policy is not only to implement the legal requirements of the government, but also is conducive to the prevention, control and fighting against the telecom fraud and other illegal and criminal activities involving unidentified SIM cards, the final purpose is to protect the legal interests of the users.
