Chinese government will invest CNY 2 billion to encourage E-commerce development in rural areas

Nie Linhai, the deputy director of the Department of Electronic Commerce and Information of Ministry of Commerce of China, said recently that the central government will invest CNY 2 billion in this year to create 200 demonstration county cities of encouraging E-commerce development in rural areas, allocating CNY 10 million for each county.

He pointed out that online shopping was becoming an important driving force of “Internet+” program, in this context, the Ministry of Commerce has formulated the “Internet+ circulation” action plan, which proposed the encouraging of E-commerce into rural areas, small and medium cities and communities.

In terms of the policies, in order to encourage the development of E-commerce into rural areas, the plan proposed to create 200 demonstration county cities, the central government will invest CNY 2 billion, namely 10 million for each one.

As we have learnt, there are over 30,000 websites which are related to agriculture in China, and about 4,000 are related with agricultural E-commerce.

Nie Linhai also pointed out that E-commerce developed rapidly in central and western areas of China, showing huge space in the future development, “in the first 25 county cities with the fastest online shopping growth rates in our statistics, more than a dozen are from the central and western areas."
