Vee Mobile granted WiMAX operating licence

Updated:2010/3/5 10:55

Taiwanese regulator the National Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that as Vee Mobile has succeeded in meeting its rollout obligations it has been awarded a concession to commercially launch WiMAX-based services in Kinmen and Taichung counties, DigiTimes reports. In a statement NCC confirmed that Vee had achieved coverage of 70% of the population in the area. The telco expects to launch services across its WiMAX networks in April this year. The NCC is scheduled to review an application for a WiMAX operating licence from First International Telecom (Fitel) soon; Fitel is the last of Taiwan's six licensees to apply for a concession.
