Ministry of Communications to review IPTV

Updated:2008/12/15 13:29

Tags:IPTV

Globes Online is reporting that Israeli communications minister Ariel Atias will not intervene in mobile operators Cellcom and Partner Communications’ IPTV activity. Whilst the minister has said a review of IPTV services will be held he noted that, as the two cellcos would only provide pay-per-view services, no action would be taken against their activities. The review of IPTV services is expected to begin when either of the operators begins regular broadcasting. HOT-Telecommunication Systems and incumbent Bezeq have both opposed plans by the mobile operators to launch IPTV services, and had appealed to the Ministry of Communications to delay service launches until clear regulations were implemented. Partner has announced plans to launch IPTV via its new online portal, while Cellcom has recently revealed a joint online venture with Blockbuster Israel.
