Brazil's telecoms regulator, Anatel has announced that it is to delay the long-planned auction of WiMAX compatible radio spectrum in the 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz bands. In a statement on their website, the regulator said that it had consulted with the potential bidders, and the vast majority supported the delay.
A total of 101 companies had expressed an interest in the regional licenses.
The regulator said that it had decided to delay the auction due to minimum bid prices which had originally been set in 2006 and no longer reflected the market realities. The licenses would also have been solely for fixed WiMAX services with no option for mobility.
No dates were suggested for resuming the auction process.
