China's Experts Recommend Collaborative Research of High & Low Bands Spectrum for 5G

Updated:2016/12/28 18:12

The industry should focus thinking on collaboration of high & low frequency bands, Ma Hongbing, deputy general manager of Network Construction Department, China Unicom said at the Chinese Communications Annual Conference 2016.

Mr. Ma thought that the deployments of 5G don't equal the complete withdrawal of 2G, 3G &4G and the government, operators and vendors should have deeper discussion and tests, consider how to take advantage of low bands such as 900M, 1.8G, 2.1G, 2.3G & 2.6G, achieving sharing of low & high frequency bands.

There is only 200M spectrum in the 3.5GHz band in which China has been conducting testing, which is to say, China has to look above 6GHz. From the perspective of coverage cost, high-frequency bands aren't as good as low-frequency bands like 900MHz, so the introduce of high-band spectrum should be gradual, needing strengthening of collaborative 4G & 5G network, according to Mr. Ma.
