Air China Wi-Fi Alliance is established and 4G Internet will be available in airplanes

Air China, ZTE and dozens of other enterprises announced the establishment of Air China Wi-Fi Alliance (hereinafter referred as the Air Alliance) jointly, taking the airlines, network equipment manufacturers, device vendors, content providers and other industries into it, it announced that it will first provide broadband services for flights from Beijing to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xi'an and other cities.

The Air Alliance aims to promote the upgrade of air Internet industry in China and provide Internet services for passengers. In addition to ZTE and Air China, the Xinhua News Agency, China UnionPay, Jingdong Mall, Sina, CATA and other civil aviation industry hardware providers, system providers, content providers and airlines have also joined the Air Alliance.

Industry experts point out that, along with the join of upstream & downstream enterprises in the industry chain and constantly increasing demands of the civil aviation passengers, the Internet industry of domestic civil aviation will enter a rapid growing stage, maintaining an average annual growth rate of 30% and the scale of civil aviation Internet industry will exceed CNY 100 billion.

After the ceremony, ZTE held a joint press conference with Air China and Aeroer, and officially started ground-air broadband strategic cooperation. As reported, ZTE now provides full technical and service guarantee for Air China using 4G technologies to meet the network demands of passengers, it may use 5G to provide Internet services in the future for airplanes.

In April 16th of this year, on the CA4116 flight of Air China from Beijing to Chengdu, it realized the first 4G LTE broadband commercial trial flight in China, soon after that, Air China held a conference jointly with ZTE in Chengdu, declaring becoming the first airline to provide Internet services and ground-air Internet interconnection services, which marked that Chinese civil aviation airlines entered the Internet era.

As we have learned, Air China mainly provides aircraft Internet services on two flights at present, however, senior vice president of ZTE Pang Shengqing said: "with the start of the ground-air broadband strategic cooperation, the two sides will develop more extensive cooperation, and provide broadband services for more flights from Beijing to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xi'an and other cities".
