All-Optical Network: Transmission, Access & Exchange Achieved in Optical Domain

The all-optical network refers to the end-to-end optical network with all of the transmission, exchange and access achieved in the optical domain and control allowed in the electric field, Wei Leping, chairman of the 2017 OptiNet China Conference and director of China Telecom's Technology Commission said at the conference held on June 13.

When both transmission and access are fiberized and ROADM and OXC are introduced into the switching layer, the all-optical network is technically constituted.

Mr. Wei noted, "The evolution toward the real all-optical network evolution has begun at present."
